The People Behind the Care

Martin has worked in residential services for over 25 years, having left the NHS in 1999. A former Registered Mental Health Nurse specialising in the care and treatment of eating disorders, he became a Registered Manager of a children's home that same year. He went on to become Service Manager and Operational Lead, developing a four-home service for children and young people with eating disorders and self-harm, which was later acquired by a large national care provider. From there, he became a Director of a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Hospital, before returning to residential childcare and joining Genesis CTE in 2018 during a pivotal time of company growth and development.

Martin has served as Responsible/Nominated Individual with Ofsted, CQC and CIW throughout his time with Genesis CTE, and in recent years has become a Governor of Hartmore Education, supporting the expansion of the school provision. Though his role is more business-focused today, nothing means more to him than meeting and talking with the children and young people Genesis supports.

Alison is a qualified and registered Mental Health and General Nurse, with a background spanning hospitals and prisons and a particular interest in self-harm and risk-taking behaviours. She previously worked as a Registered Manager under Ofsted and CQC within self-harm services, before moving into a Service Manager role.

Alison has been with Genesis since 2018, joining as Registered Manager of Chasewater House before opening and leading The Lawns as Registered Manager until 2021. She went on to become Clinical Lead, later taking on the role of Nominated and Responsible Individual across the homes.

Outside of work, Alison is an avid reader - and when she isn't lost in a book, you'll likely find her at aerial hoop or yoga.

I have over 23 years’ experience working in and around children and young people’s residential care and work-based learning, giving me a strong understanding of the sector, the challenges faced by the workforce and the importance of high-quality, child-centred practice.
I have a real passion for quality, professional development and continuous improvement. Throughout my career, I have supported individuals and teams to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence, enabling them to achieve professional qualifications and strengthen their practice within the sector.
I have extensive knowledge of sector standards, legislation and regulatory frameworks, alongside practical experience of supporting the workforce to translate these requirements into meaningful, effective practice. I am particularly passionate about helping people recognise their strengths, develop their professional skills and understand how their learning can positively impact the lives of children and young people.
My commitment to quality and improving practice was recognised in 2019 when I was awarded the National Training Federation Wales (NTfW) Assessor of the Year. This achievement reflected my dedication to supporting high standards and promoting excellence within workforce.
I continue to be committed to sharing knowledge, encouraging reflective practice and supporting others to achieve their potential, with the aim of improving outcomes and experiences for children and young people.
